Villanueva outlines the etiquette of greeting others, gift giving, traditional proposals and wedding ceremonies, and funerals. Croatians are family oriented people and many daily activities involve family bonding. They keep their culture alive with songs, rituals, and folk tales. Not greeting someone properly is considered offensive in this culture and bringing a gift (usually flowers) to a gathering is expected. Traditional wedding proposals involve many steps before the man can marry his bride and paying respect to the dead and their family is expected.
Croatia is a country that abides by its cultural traditions and etiquette. They follow the traditions that they have been following for centuries before. Although the strict adherence to these rules is starting to fade, these practices still continue in the culture without fading completely. I enjoy the respect given to all members of society.
These activities tie into the culture because they make up the Croatian culture itself. The etiquette and expectations continue to shape the people of Croatia into the people they are today. These practices are important to the culture in this country because it abides with the traditions of the culture that have been developed throughout the centuries.
